You just do!

griefAs I sit here typing this tonight, I wonder what she’s doing. I left her at IHop sitting at the table were I bought her and her little daughter something to eat. I know everything has its purpose. But sometimes that purpose is not easy to watch or experience. You see, I walked up to my son’s preschool class and there she was signing her child out. We’ll call her Angela. I could sense something was wrong so of course i asked her. She proceeded to tell me very quietly that she had no where to live. what do you say? what do you do? You just do…! I asked if i could take her and her daughter to eat. She said yes. During dinner she told me the story of how she has lost everything. No apartment, no money, no means of feeding her baby. BUT everything happens for a reason and it is no accident she was there as i walked into the classroom. I bought her dinner, gave her all the money I had left (bank account and all), and promised that no matter what i was committed to helping her create a new path for her and her little daughter. I don’t know if she is sleeping in her car as we speak. She said she had somewhere she could stay tonight but she may be saying that so she doesn’t feel like a burden.

My question is: Why are we as a human race allowing for our brothers and sisters to go hungry, to go without a place to sleep. Why is it more important to buy a big TV for your home then to feed a little child starving somewhere. Do you realize that the price of that television could literally feed a village in some countries. Do you think It bothered me to give her every dime I had left to my name? No… Money is always there when you need it. You just need to trust that it is there.

Of course I don’t need to know these answers. It is what it is. “You CAN be the change you would like to see in the world.”-Ghandi, or you can choose to do nothing, and that too, is what it is. But as you will notice if you start to see doors open for you and you choose to sit back and do nothing then you will also see doors start to close.

    Hello Amber,
I was recently doing research for a graduate class of mine and your name popped up. We met years ago in LA when I was a young Army officer and recent USC grad getting ready to start my career in the Army. I would not have recognized your name if it hadn’t been for the fact that you told me your legal first name: “Royal”. It pleases me to see that you are doing well and wish you continued success.
